Cascade 2020 Perch A Palooza Part 1
Просмотров 3,6 тыс.4 года назад
Over the first week of February 2020, I had the privilege of fishing with over a dozen different anglers while experiencing just about every type of condition Cascade Reservoir has to offer. Released a lot of fish, and kept plenty for a few meals. Let me tell you, there are jumbo's everywhere in this lake...key in on a depth, and some key features and you will catch fish wherever you go. Enjoy....

Scott Wetzel and I stop to fish with Clay Houle and Gary Burcham on our way to the St Paul Ice Show. This is an annual stop for me, and the stud Blue Gill never disappoint, but this year there was a Crappie surprise! With 10" of ice under light snow cover, and a clearing weather pattern, it was a great day to be on the ice. No shacks needed, despite the title of my series! We caught some fish, ...

    Too bad your camera didn’t show things more close up so you actually could see what you did. Your preferences would not catch many lakers on Lake Superior. And think about using singles hooks on spoons and the tails of stick baits. They provide better hook ups with less spitting of the hook.

    What size ball are you using on Flathead? Used to live in eastern MT fishing for walleyes on bottom bouncers, so I’m new to downriggers.

    Quite the opposite. Great video but the line arc is not shown accurately. There will be a bow regardless of tension, but the line arc and associated extra line will naturally be minimized with greater tension, allowing faster hook sets.

    I have used the electric and 1050 riggers for many years. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxbjBedIFSQ6Y6rp8DrCC_aoWMZI8GUpmH I bought these lake trollers for my 15’ Grumman sport boat and they worked almost perfectly for fishing lake trout. The only negative is that they seemed sticky on the retrieval, so I removed the spool and greased the underside of the stainless steel plate with some lip balm (the only thing I could think to use that I had on the boat with me). Then they worked much more smoothly. I don’t recommend using these down riggers if you’re planning on fishing deeper than 50’ as you’ll spend more time cranking than you will fishing.

We didn’t catch anything but it was still fun and worked awesome! Can’t wait to use this baby again and hopefully reel in a big ole fish! Very easy to install and set up.*

    Hi Mr Howe just curious not asking a specific spot but since you know peck well i was just wondering where a guy who is walking and not using transportation could get into walleye and lakers??? I don't mind walking its just a big lake not being able to shoot from spot to spot with a snow machine or atv. I would appreciate any and all info thanks! love the content!

      @AAbleFishingCharters 3 года назад

      Hey Josh. Walking out from the "shaft houses", on the East end of the dam will be your best bet! We catch everything just out on that structure due South of them, with Lakers coming more out of the deeper water ti the SW of them. ALWAYS check in at the Lakeridge Lodge and bait shop for most current conditions! Good luck if you go!

    • @AAbleFishingCharters
      @AAbleFishingCharters 3 года назад

      Macks all over the lake, or at least they used to be. Some places hold more than others. If you are going to fish Mack days, go to their web site and then contact the organization directly. They want to kill all the Lake Trout out of the lake, (stated goals are an 80-90% reduction in the Mackinaw population) so they will be happy to put you on the fish...which is part of the reason these big ones are harder and harder to come by...

    I was on the south end of the lake until 2010. Hundreds if not thousands of hours fishing solely on downriggers on the Flathead unless jigging for whitefish during their bite. Thank you for this, Mike. I learned a few things I didn't know, and I thought the bird's-eye from the drone was just exactly what it took to show a world class setup and process for trolling Macs. Very kind of you to share your professional expertise with us this way. Much appreciated.

    • @AAbleFishingCharters

      Chris, there are covers that snap in on each end, keeps the light and wind out. 8 Houses, huh? Apparently you haven't priced lumber lately! Will they be as light, and indestructible? Push them around by hand? Multi use for a hunting blind? Cracks me up how guys can make assumptions and generalizations without ever seeing or being in one...Are they for everyone? Hell no, just like a Snowbear or Ranger with tracks...But WE happen to find them QUITE useful fort here intended purpose, and the clients we place in them come out pretty darn happy as well...
